Overview
A local college needed to upgrade an aging switchgear setup. But the location of the switchgear made for several nearly unsolvable problems. So they called Zang to figure it out.
The Problem
The switchyard was in a courtyard surrounded by buildings. We would need to rig the new equipment over them for installation. The yard itself was overgrown with plants and had other debris scattered around the existing switchgear. If that wasn’t tricky enough, the new setup had to both fit in the same space and follow approximately the same layout.
The Solution
We partnered with a local switchgear manufacturer and visited the site. We took careful measurements and designed a custom switchgear solution to match the old footprint and layout. A successful installation of the new switchgear would depend on a perfect fit. The hard-to-access location meant there was little room for error. So Zang triple-checked everything for accuracy to make sure all the equipment fit exactly.
The Result
We solved the “unsolvable” problem. The new switchgear setup fit perfectly, and the building seamlessly transitioned when it powered on. The upgraded equipment will be more reliable and resistant to damage during a power fluctuation, surge, or outage. It will be easier to maintain than the old setup and safer to operate for the technicians. It can also accommodate increased power needs the facility may have in the near future.
